A Community Mural for Sunshine Mile
When the Sunshine Mile Merchant Association needed support to bring a big idea to life, they turned to Local First Arizona's Economic Recovery Center (AZERC). This partnership helped Sunshine Mile win a competitive grant from the Arizona Commission of the Arts for use in the community to improve foot traffic, reactivate community involvement, and drive tourism. The AZERC aims to enable more qualified Arizona cities, towns, counties, tribal communities, and nonprofits to win and implement competitive federal, state, municipal, or foundation grants.
Art as a vehicle for community engagement
“As a grassroots and volunteer-run association, we are beyond grateful for the expertise and excellence of service we received from Local First Arizona,” stated Andy Littleton, President of the Sunshine Merchant Association. “We wholeheartedly believe that the grant writing services we received moved our application from good to great and helped us secure a grant for our meaningful community project. Our area businesses thank you, as do the partner organizations and neighbors who were able to participate in this project. Our area has a unique and inspiring new piece of public art!”
