A Win for Sustainable Travel

Recent reports show that two-thirds of travelers want to support their destination’s recovery and see their money go back into the local communities they visit. Local First Arizona (LFA) and Visit Tucson are making it easier than ever before.

Now, hospitality businesses that complete Local First Arizona's Green Business Certification will be noted as "Green Business Certified" in the Visit Tucson directory.

The certification program provides a custom toolkit full of best practices and ideas that can positively affect a business's bottom line focusing on energy consumption, water conservation, and waste diversion with an emphasis on social and community impact.

Jason Lowry, Local First Arizona’s Director of Sustainability, is optimistic about the opportunities the new partnership affords.  “Collaborating with Visit Tucson will lift up small and locally owned businesses and entrepreneurs who are leading Tucson's and Arizona's sustainability movement and give them visibility through their marketing platform to drive national and local Arizona business their way,” stated Lowry.

Benefits to Businesses who complete the Arizona Green Business Certification include:

  • Listing on the online directory and mobile app

  • Certificate to display in your business

  • Digital seal to post on marketing materials

  • Customized sustainability plan showing best practices and recommendations on how to improve

  • Assistance from Local First Arizona and its business network to achieve your sustainability goals

  • Recognition in Local First Arizona’s marketing and press releases

  • Save money with less wasteful processes

  • Recognition as a sustainability leader in our community

  • Grow loyalty with customers and employees that are seeking out environmentally friendly businesses

“Over the past few years, the City of Tucson emerged as a leader in climate change action and sustainable movements,” said Jessica Barfield, Local First Arizona’s Director of Tucson Business Development. “Our partnership with Visit Tucson is another proactive step to helping local businesses make meaningful changes while also giving visitors the ability to choose from businesses who make sustainable operations a priority.”
