5 Local Holiday Events to Check Out Before the New Year
The holiday season is almost over, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a ton to do around Arizona! Whether you’re looking for a family outing, places to shop for last-minute gifts, or a place to celebrate the new year, we’ve got you covered. Shop Local Month is still in full swing, many of these events are great ways to show your support for your community.
The Zoolights event is a popular attraction for the Phoenix Zoo, as it gives patrons of all ages a chance to see an array of colorful Christmas lights and displays. Not only will you get to see hundreds of intricate exhibits, but the park offers many different food and drink options that are guaranteed to get you into the holiday spirit. This event is perfect for children, as the Zoo has a “village” where guests can interact with reindeer and get their photo taken with Santa.
Back for its fifth year, the gala fundraiser is a prohibition themed party whose proceeds support the Heritage Square Foundation and its goal in preserving its historical buildings and collection. Experience the swinging rhythms of Joe Smith & the Spicy Pickles, dance lessons by Savage Rhythm, delicious appetizers, and signature cocktails from the Arizona Event Catering. The event will also have photo booths, a silent auction with awesome items up for bid, and a champagne toast at midnight. So, why not ring in the new year supporting a beloved Phoenix staple and party into 2020.
Across the street from the zoo is the Desert Botanical Garden. Why not celebrate the holiday season with a stroll through the Botanical Garden trails to see thousands of luminaria bags, glimmering lights, and the newest art exhibition, Wild Rising by Cracking Art. By contacting the garden, guests can honor a loved one or a special occasion that they’d like to commemorate on a luminaria bag that will be displayed in front of the Webster Auditorium.
This year, downtown Flagstaff and Local First Arizona have partnered up to give patrons a chance to win prizes. What does the passport entail? It’s simple, shop at five participating downtown businesses OR spend a combined total of $250 to be entered to win some cool prizes. With each purchase, a sticker will be added to your passport to document which places you shopped at and how much you spent. Once you’ve completed the passport, you can leave it at any of the participating businesses. This is a great way to purchase any last-minute gifts as well as support local businesses!
5. New Year’s Eve Tucson’s Times Square
Ringing in the new year in Tucson? Why not party into the next decade with the biggest New Year’s Eve party in the city at the Hotel Congress. This year’s festivities include two stages for live music, DJs, and the Rockettes. There will be many sights to see as well, including a firework display and the famous Tucson taco drop!
