5 Eco-Friendly Goals for the New Year

Whether you are starting the journey to zero waste or just wanting to be more environmentally conscious, here are some ways to make a positive environmental impact in 2020.

1. Buy Second Hand 
The simple switch from fast fashion to thrift store style is a great start to your new sustainable lifestyle. Buying second hand will not only help you save money, you will find unique items and you’ll decrease your carbon footprint. Some local thrift stores to check out include:


2. Meatless Mondays 
Emissions from the agricultural sector are one of the biggest contributors to global greenhouse emissions, but you don’t have to give up meat entirely to have a positive impact. Going meatless one day a week will result in a significant reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, save water and protect wild land. Check out many local restaurants and good purveyors that offer vegan and vegetarian options that you can enjoy every Monday: 


3. Volunteer for an Environmental Nonprofit 
By engaging in volunteer work you'll make a contribution to the community, promote environmental awareness and solutions, connect with like-minded people, and provide an economic incentive for the local non profits to continue doing the noteworthy work that they do. 4. Attend Educational Events
Sustainability is about meeting our present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. The root of that lies in striving for sustainability in our homes, communities and  ecosystems. Immerse yourself in environmental events to develop a deeper understanding of the current issues and solutions and make informed decisions while spreading awareness.


5. Say no to Plastic
Reusable water bottles, straws and bags are a small but important switch to make to give our planet a helping hand, as plastic is a major pollutant from manufacturing to its disposal. Check out some local options to find your new reusable items:
