Tantalizing ingredients are available at this new Tucson specialty grocery

Nestled in the foothills of the Catalina Mountains is Seared Living, one of Local First Arizona’s newest members, as well as one of Tucson’s most unique grocery stores.

Opened in November, Seared Living's goal is to be a “destination retail” experience, offering personalized, curated shopping for locals and first-time customers alike.

Striking as their sales floor is ― including a vast, colorful wall of cooking oils and a display featuring Tucson’s famous Barrio Bread ― it is perhaps their recipe board that stands out the most.

Each card is adorned with a recipe that can be purchased, in full or in part, using ingredients found at Seared Living, with additional insights and recommendations provided by co-owners Tawnya and Casey Erickson. Customers can sample anything in the store if they ask, Casey said.

The perfect ingredients for grilling

Seared Living is centrally located between Tucson's northwest and east sides, about 20 minutes from downtown.

The location was intentionally chosen by Tawnya and Casey, as their storefront boasts a large back patio perfect for parties and events and features a stunning view of the Catalinas from the entrance.

The name Seared Living comes from the owners’ love of grilling outside year-round. From steaks to the occasional desserts, they have learned that even the most basic recipes can be elevated by using flavorful ingredients.

After visiting Tucson for more than 12 years, getting married there in 2020 and finally moving from Montana, Tawnya and Casey felt they had found the perfect place to start the gourmet market they'd always dreamed of running.

With Seared Living's doors now open, they're looking to expand their business and get the word out about the custom gifting and recipes they offer. To that end, a grand opening celebration is in the works, with more events to follow.

Strengthening Arizona’s local food economy

Supporting Tucson-based businesses like Seared Living is an important part of Local First’s work in food and farming.

Food is at the center of our daily lives, and local agriculture and food production are major drivers of Arizona’s economy.

Local farmers, ranchers and food entrepreneurs are critical to a healthy food system that provides economic opportunities and increases access to affordable, fresh food for all Arizonans.

Local First’s portfolio of food initiatives and events includes the statewide Good Food Finder directory, the Arizona Good Food Expo as well as food entrepreneurship programs like the Restaurant Startup Boot Camp and Community Kitchens program.

All of these initiatives and events strengthen the bonds between local communities and their sources of food and work to create prosperity in both urban and rural settings.

Seared Living is open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at 2870 E. Skyline Drive, Suite 170, Tucson. For more information, go to searedliving.com or call 520-780-3473.
