The Local First Arizona Sustainability Team is excited to launch a new program created to help businesses and nonprofits adopt sustainability strategies that strengthen their operations and make them more resilient in the face of climate change in Southern Arizona.

In partnership with the Tucson 2030 District and a network of community partners, the Southern Arizona Green Business Leaders Program (Green Leaders) will work in tandem with other Local First Arizona programs, such as SCALE UP, and the Tucson 2030 District , to form the Southern Arizona Green Business Alliance (SAZGBA) — an alliance and network of local leaders and businesses working to build a stronger, more sustainable Arizona.

Southern Arizona Green Business Leaders Program

The first program of the Alliance, the Southern Arizona Green Business Leaders Program, is a certification program that provides businesses with an entry point to learn about, evaluate and adopt cost-saving sustainability practices with an easy-to-use checklist. Southern Arizona business owners who apply will benefit from one-on-one consultations aimed at supporting their needs and ideas for sustainable projects. They will receive a comprehensive and flexible certification checklist, offering options ranging from easy fixes to more in-depth measures. These checklist items are designed to help them gain the cost-savings, environmental, and social benefits of adopting sustainable business practices.

During this pandemic, increasing resiliency is more important than ever. Those who are part of Green Leaders may have the opportunity to see a significant return on investment for new sustainability measures and will be better equipped to handle future crises. By completing the certification, businesses will be able to evaluate their basic sustainability footprint, connect to local green resources, receive recognition for leadership, and build affinity among customers and employees who support environmentally responsible practices.
