Cultivating Community: Get to Know Arizona's Vibrant Farming Visionaries

Explore Arizona's diverse agricultural landscape alongside three fresh faces in our business coalition. These dedicated growers nurture an array of produce, from crisp vegetables to nutrient-packed microgreens and unique crops. We're excited to welcome these newcomers, some of whom recently participated in our Good Food Forum & Expo on August 29. Join us in celebrating the evolving tapestry of Arizona's food culture and savoring the homegrown goodness they contribute to our community.

Located in San Tan Valley, Rhiba Farms is committed to sustainable, nutrient-dense produce. Initially dabbling in wheatgrass for juicing, founder Mark Rhine's passion for quality food led to the flourishing 3.3-acre Rhiba Farms. Here, unique non-commodity crops, microgreens, mushrooms, and hemp thrive. Beyond restaurants, Rhiba Farms shares its bounty through farmers' markets, a Farm Stand, and educational events. With a focus on regenerative farming and composting, Rhiba Farms showcases the potential of sustainable desert agriculture.

A leader in sustainable agriculture, Urban Roots Farm is revolutionizing the production of fresh, nutrient-rich microgreens and specialty produce. Using state-of-the-art indoor farming techniques, they prioritize sustainability, minimizing waste and water use through closed-loop systems. Their core values, including integrity, innovation, and sustainability, drive them to provide exceptional service and reduce their environmental impact. By delivering flavorful, eco-friendly produce, Urban Roots Farms aims to change how we perceive and consume food, all while promoting a healthier planet and a healthier you.

Led by Rodney and Daphine Machokoto, Machokoto Family Farms stands as a beacon of sustainable urban farming and community development in Phoenix. Their mission revolves around combating food insecurity by fostering local food systems, partnering with food banks, the City of Phoenix, and supporting disadvantaged families. Rodney, a full-time urban farmer and Arizona State University PhD student, merges academic research with practical farming to address social determinants of health. Their farm provides fresh, pesticide-free produce and educational opportunities, benefiting both students and the local community.
