The pandemic has changed the way businesses communicate, shop and buy, and that likely won’t change after the lockdowns have lifted.

Businesses that don’t have the right tech tools, strategies and processes in place may find themselves unprepared for this post-pandemic world.

Technology allows businesses to connect virtually with consumers while adhering to shelter-in-place and social distancing guidelines. As Arizona businesses begin to open their doors to customers, many people will likely continue to shop online to feel safer.

Here are three ways technology can help your business sell more online during and after COVID-19:

1.      Video – Use video to showcase your business, your products and services, and the processes you have in place to ensure your employees’ and customers’ safety. Video is a great way to personalize your communication when face-to-face isn’t an option. Ask your happy customers if they can take a 1-minute video of their experience with your business. Record the video from your mobile phone, make it fun and then post the best videos to your website and/or social sites. Make sure your videos are short. According to Facebook, the 10 most engaging videos of 2019 were just a minute long.

2.      Social media – Google is still No. 1 in search. Check and update your free Google My Business page on a regular basis, especially when things change in your business. Google is prioritizing COVID-19 updates, so keep that in mind. Make sure all your social media pages are up to date with your new hours, sterilization news, and new pickup and delivery services. Respond quickly to any customer questions and inquiries. People are spending more time online so this is your chance to connect with your customers through regular social posts. Be sure to share how you’re giving back to the community on social media as your audience appreciates and will share this content with others. As an  example, a dealership teamed up with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive and offered $100 of free maintenance work to first responders and health care workers. The social posts about the initiatives were shared over 90 times.

3.      Texting – Only one in five emails is ever opened, but 95% of all text messages are read within three minutes. The average response time is just 90 seconds. Texting has the personalization of a phone call but with a higher response rate. Look into a vendor that offers texting campaigns to help your business send out bulk text messages. This is your chance to get your news quickly to the mobile devices of your customers, whether you’re sharing new store specials or letting people know you’re open and safe. Phones have become our lifeline during COVID-19. Even more reasons to text: Texting is the No. 1 way Americans younger than 50 communicate, and about 97% of Americans text at least once a day.
