The Phoenix Art Museum Turns 65: Three Ways Phoenix Art Museum Is Celebrating AZ

The Phoenix Art Museum has been a mainstay of cultural appreciation for decades, showcasing art in a variety of forms for locals to enjoy across 285,000 square feet in the heart of downtown. Acknowledged as a Phoenix Point of Pride, the longstanding member of Local First Arizona actively engages with the community, highlighting the state and the people who cherish it, while also supporting local businesses.

As we celebrate the museum’s 65th anniversary, here are three ways Phoenix Art Museum will celebrate Arizona!

Arizona’s Cottonwoods Seen Through a New Lens

A new exhibition, Charles Gaines: Numbers and Trees (Arizona Series), allows locals and visitors alike to view the state’s abundant cottonwood trees through a different lens. As a renowned conceptual artist, Gaines overlays photographs of cottonwoods with a numbered grid, giving the image an altered dimension.

The exhibit includes eight triptychs, or works of art divided into three panels or sections. And the trees featured in the exhibit were photographed along the San Pedro River near Sierra Vista, southeast of Tucson.

In addition to the triptychs, the exhibit includes a 12-foot-by-16-foot enclosed sculptural piece known as Greenhouse. The exhibit features three stainless steel trees inside and gradually fills with smoke as a visual representation of climate change since the 18th century. Accompanying the sculpture are monitors displaying historical temperature changes over time.

A Return to First Fridays

Anyone who has been enjoying First Fridays throughout the year can add visiting the Phoenix Art Museum to their itinerary. A Dia de los Muertos celebration in early November marked the museum’s return to the monthly celebration of art and culture.

The event included live music, in-gallery sketching, local food and drink vendors and docent-led tours in English and Spanish. Attendees were invited to participate in a candle workshop with Crafty Chica and take in a dancing puppeteer performance by the Cultural Coalition.

Consider it a preview of what the museum will offer on First Fridays to come, when admission to the museum is free.

Partnering With AZ Businesses

In what can only be described as a win-win connection between the business community and the torchbearer for cultural health, the Phoenix Art Museum offers corporate partnerships that are completely tax deductible, fund important programming and create opportunities for employers.

The Corporate Partner Program not only allows the Phoenix Art Museum to realize its mission to improve access to arts and arts education for visitors of every age and background, but it offers businesses opportunities to amplify their brand, network at key events, take advantage of discounts on facility rentals and seize unique marketing opportunities.

In addition, the partnership allows businesses to extend free admission to their employees during Corporate Appreciation Week. The museum offers a variety of levels for its Corporate Partner Program, which makes it available to businesses of every size.
