The Arizona Green Business Program is Coming to Mesa
Mesa businesses that are looking to improve their eco-footprint and get recognized for their efforts have a new way to do so! The Arizona Green Business Program is launching in Mesa, thanks to the support of the City of Mesa Environmental Services team and city leadership. This certification program is open to independently owned businesses of all types and focuses on energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, pollution prevention, transportation efficiency, and general sustainability in the workplace. The goal is to seek ways businesses can reduce environmental impact with an eye toward cost savings and recognition.
The LFA Sustainability team has been the feet on the ground for local businesses looking for assistance with their sustainability practices, getting a good understanding of the many things that independent businesses are doing well, and the challenges that they face. Local businesses have told us sustainability is a priority, but it can feel overwhelming and hard to determine which steps to take. We’ve also met many entrepreneurs that are working hard to be part of the solution yet the public is unaware of the amazing things they are doing behind-the-scenes. The Arizona Green Business Program has been designed with all this in mind, with a goal to advise indie businesses of all types and help implement solutions, and give them the recognition they deserve.
The launch of the Arizona Green Business Program follows on the heels of Mesa Mayor John Giles’s inauguration for his second term, in which he stated that environmental impact is one of his five priorities for the year. We’re thrilled to see the Mayor’s commitment and are excited to get the ball rolling to show that the local business community is part of the solution when it comes to sustainability in Arizona cities.
How can your business get involved?
Locally owned businesses located in Mesa can sign up online and have instant access to the checklist of questions. The LFA sustainability team then sets up a time to meet with each business about their operations, and learn more about how they implement sustainability and any specific goals they have. A custom report is developed for each business, which acts as a sustainability plan to help prioritize the next steps to take, and once the business is certified they get promoted through multiple platforms including a mobile app and online directory. There is no fee for businesses to participate.
Sustainability in business operations is an ongoing, ever-changing process and we’re ready to help local businesses take action steps to be the best stewards they can. The Arizona Green Business Program is also active in the City of Tempe and Phoenix. For more information, reach out to Nick@localfirstaz.com.
