You know you live in (602) if…

On June 2, the City of Phoenix will officially recognize “602 Day” for the first time.

The goal of 602 Day is to celebrate Phoenix as a great place to live, work and enjoy life with fun events and discounts from local businesses, cultural organizations and other groups. Other cities across the country build civic pride and commemorate their local area code with holidays too. Find events at 602Day.com.

The holiday got us thinking about the telltale signs you live in the (602) area code, so we polled our staff who live there.

Let us know if you agree, disagree or have one to suggest!

You know you live in (602) if....

... you know the difference between uptown, downtown and midtown

… you describe where you live using cross streets instead of neighborhood names

... you think of Roosevelt Row when someone says art 🎨

... anything below 100 degrees is chilly, and Valley Fever isn't a dance move 🕺

... your lemonade is just like Grandma made

… your favorite coffee shop serves locally roasted beans ☕

… you go to a record store for fun

… you recognize the silver dome and the white castle off the I-10 freeway

… you can’t wait for the post-snowbird drop in traffic

… you can locate Scottsdale Road and Acoma by the Shane Co. building 💎

… you understand this sign (kind of):

(City of Phoenix)

… when you hear the name Rafi, you think of a song about a lawyer … not children’s music

… all activities outside include water, but the water that comes out of your hose is hot 😩

… seeing a coyote in the street or on a golf course is normal

… getting rid of cactus is a crime 🌵

… you think the street is wet, but it's really heat reflecting off the asphalt

… you stay away from leather seats and always use a dashboard sun shade 🚙

… no one knows how to drive when it’s raining, including you

… you start using the A/C in February

… you burn your feet running out to the ice cream truck🍦

… you love all the styles of Arizona specialty license plates, but especially Local First Arizona’s Keep Arizona Beautiful design 😎 ♻️ 🌎
