This month we’re featuring one of our newest members - Desert Moon Market! This woman-owned business is a desert lover’s paradise. Owner Alexandra has filled her shop with home decor and clothing inspired by the desert and an upcoming beauty line made with the healing elements of Arizona. Explain a little bit about your background: who is Alex?
I’m originally from Arizona and had been in the Pacific Northwest where I went to college for art and design. Yet, the desert was calling me, so I moved back in 2017. I have always feel a strong creative energy here. When I first got back, I began working in interior design and then in 2020 when things slowed down, I started planning Desert Moon Market and opened in April 2021. It felt a little wild considering everything that was going on but, I decided to follow my heart. Here I am a year later and I'm so happy I did it! I absolutely love what I do. I'm grateful to have a business that is creative, dynamic, and challenging. Desert Moon Market is the perfect marriage of everything I love.
Tell us about the uniqueness of Desert Moon Market, and what kinds of products and services do you provide?
Desert Moon Market is a lifestyle store featuring thoughtfully curated apparel, home goods, and body care. Our style is eclectic desert chic. We also feature local companies and products.
Where do you source your products?
Sourcing is a fun process! I utilize online wholesale marketplaces, find new companies on Instagram and attend trade shows. The live markets are great- It’s so important to experience things, especially apparel, in person. Where did the passion come from to open your own clothing store?
I have always loved the feeling of perusing an independent shop and finding something special. I think after the pandemic people are looking to get out and make connections and support their local communities. I was inspired to create a beautiful and welcoming space where people could do just that. Beyond that I wanted to add something new to our Carefree community.
What are the most fulfilling aspects of owning your own business?
The most fulfilling aspect of owning my own business is the creative potential and meeting new people.
How can the local community find and support you?
We have a physical store at the beautiful Spanish village in Carefree Arizona at 7211 E. Ho Rd suite #18. It’s an outdoor shopping center with restaurants and a family friendly park with a splash pad. We are next to the Black Mountain Café. You can also shop our website www.desertmoonmarket.com
