Starting your own business feels empowering, rewarding and an achievement to be proud of. But it can also feel overwhelming at times.

A recent survey of small businesses showed the smallest ones (those with 1-4 employees) say they are in need of the most support, with only 4% reporting they are in excellent financial condition, compared to 20% of businesses with 50-499 employees feeling confident in their finances.

The survey by the National Federation of Independent Business found small business owners’ level of uncertainty is as high now as it was in 2020, during the upheaval of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Yet, small businesses are a crucial part of our economy, producing nearly half of the nation’s jobs and economic activity, said NFIB Chief Economist Bill Dunkelberg.
