Local Distancing: The Best Way to Get Outdoors During Indie Week XXL
View from an Arizona Zipline Adventures line!
Arizona’s diverse landscapes give us so many outdoor opportunities year round — which we still can enjoy safely! During the summer you can escape to cooler climates in Flagstaff or find hike through the red rocks of Sedona. This week for Indie Week XXL we are inviting you to go out and enjoy some local “distanced” adventures, whether that be through hiking, biking, or taking a long stroll to visit your favorite businesses.
Thanks to the up to 315 days of sunshine, we have lots of local businesses that will help you gear up for whatever outdoor adventure you have in mind. If outdoors during 100 degree days isn’t your thing, you can still find lots of ways to get outside by picnicking or doing an open air walking tour of Arizona's rural towns.
Countless studies have shown that sunshine and the outdoors help us feel happier and more relaxed. Finding ways to de-stress is paramount during these times. If you don’t have a weekend to spare, biking to your favorite local business is a great option. You could also go for a hike or simply read a book in a park. Of course, make sure to remember your mask and stay 6ft. away!
❌ Plan Your Next Rural Vacation
Arizona’s rural towns are just waiting for you to discover them! They have delicious food, outdoor activities and art and cultural galleries to offer and they are so fun to explore. Are you looking for some adventure and excitement? Vortex ATV and Pindrop Trailers in Cottonwood or Arizona Zipline Adventures in Oracle are the places to go. Some rural eateries include Sonoita Vineyards, Sahuarita Treats and Untamed Confections and you can find art in venues like Global Arts Gallery in Patagonia.
❌ Bike or Walk to a Local Business
Biking or walking to a local business is a great way to see your city in a new way. When you walk to the Songbird Coffee and Tea House in Phoenix, you can view all the gorgeous murals downtown. You don’t need to be in central Phoenix to find great walk-able restaurants. You can check out the vegan food from the Pomegranate Cafe near the Ahwatukee Foothills or the Smith-o-lator Cookie Shop in Mesa. Walk or grab your bike instead of driving to pick it up and take a stroll while you eat.

❌ Opt Outside
One of the best ways to cope with quarantine is to get outside! If you need help finding something to do, these local businesses are here to help you enjoy the outdoors while you mask up. Just Roughin’ It in Scottsdale has all your outdoor needs covered from apparel to stoves. Have you been wanting to become a better runner or maybe you want to get into it?
