5 Ways to Celebrate Halloween Locally

You know Halloween is encroaching on us when you see those “big box” costume retailers descending on vacant retail spaces. By the time we’ve woken from our candy- and festivity- induced slumber on November 1, they have already packed up their leftovers and skipped town with their profits. So why do we continue to spend our hard-earned dollars at these phantom costume retailers, rather than at independent businesses that have been rooted in our community for sometimes 40 years or more? This is a question we should explore, as we list the ways to go local this Halloween:

1. Buy or rent your costume from a local business. Keep your dollars circulating in our community by supporting our local costume retailers (many of which have steep discounts right now!). If you’re looking to save a few dollars, try renting your costume this year. Arizona Fun Services rents costumes for as little as $10! Find a full list of locally-owned costume renters and retailers here. You can also check out local children’s apparel retailers for some costume options, call ahead to check their inventory.

2. Get your sweets locally. The trick-or-treaters will certainly remember your front door if you drop a Fairytale Brownie in their bag! Or you can visit Bashas’, our hometown grocer, and see their screaming deals on all sorts of candy. Click here to see our list of local candy retailers.

3. Enjoy the local festivities and events. Local businesses and organizations all over the Valley and the state are hosting spooky events for all ages!  Check out our full list of Phoenix-area and Tucson-area Halloween events.
