Today’s Local First Arizona member spotlight is on Tempe Camera:
Tempe has undergone quite a metamorphosis from the days when we lived and went to school there. We recall shopping and volunteering at the co-op, dinners from the mom and pop restaurants that had been there for centuries (never mind the yellow, peeling wallpaper), and hanging out at the old dive bars with the regulars who knew your name and life story. Now, it’s an entirely different place with very few of our old haunts still standing. Luckily, a staple of our college experience, Tempe Camera, still exists. With a degree in photography, we spent a lot of time (and money) at Tempe Camera – the staff was always friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. They pulled strings for us when we were tight on deadline. They shared invaluable tips and tricks and taught us how to work and maneuver our camera. Essentially the team at Tempe Camera became a support group when we totally second-guessed our career as a photographer. But, it wasn’t just us.
Barry Goldwater was so impressed with the service he received at Tempe Camera, he sent them a letter and wrote: “I want to compliment you on the great staff you have at the shop. I have found every time I have visited Tempe Camera, they have been courteous and extremely knowledgeable.”
Celebrating its 40th year in business, Tempe Camera continues to be known as a reliable resource for aspiring and professional photographers and has truly embodied a community-oriented enterprise. Tempe Camera is an all in one stop for your photography needs – an image, repair, and rental shop, as well as a retailer of photographic, digital and video equipment and accessories. If you’re thinking of dusting off the old 35mm or want to shoot a roll of black and white film, swing by Tempe Camera to get you started and up and running again.
