La Bocca Urban Pizzeria – setting the trend for local food

Many Arizona restaurants have been jumping on the trend of sourcing the food they serve from local farmers and vendors. And with so many local food producers in the state, the only hard part is making the choice of who to purchase from! While many are jumping on this trend, Tempe’s La Bocca Urban Pizzeria and Wine Bar has been a trendsetter in this arena. La Bocca has recently hired a new General Manager to take them to the next local level:

“A little over five weeks ago, James Farmer was hired as the new General Manager [of La Bocca]. The New Orleans native has been in the food services industry for over 30 years and moved to Arizona in 1995. James has a passion for food and loves working with local growers such as Singh Farms (Scottsdale) and Duncan Family Farms (Goodyear), incorporating their seasonal fruits and vegetables into his dishes.”

This is great news, for both the local economy and food producers (and for our stomachs!). Farmer recently featured a dish highlighting some of the seasonal fare: Yellow Watermelon & Heirloom Tomato Gazpacho garnished with Feta and Fresh Basil. That sounds like the perfect, refreshing summer dish to allow us to forget about the oppressive and extreme temperatures outside.
