Make Local Business’ Voice Heard In The Arizona Senate!

Last week, legislation to close the sales tax loophole exploited by online-only retailers in Arizona unanimously passed the Senate Commerce Committee.  While this is very encouraging news, we need to ensure that the SB1338 use tax (commonly known as the “Amazon should collect sales tax” bill!) gains even more momentum and we are asking your help.  Please take a moment to email your Senator in support of SB1338.  Here are some steps put together by the Arizona Alliance for Main Street Fairness that make this process quick and simple.

3) Copy and paste the following text into an email to your Senator:

Dear Senator:

As a small business owner here in Arizona, as well as a proud member of Local First Arizona, I strongly support Senate Bill 1338. Local retail businesses need to be able to compete on a level playing field with online retailers who own and operate warehouses or distribution centers within the state. The sales tax loophole that they are exploiting is unfair to small businesses like mine. While we must collect and submit sales tax on the items purchased in our store, online retailers do not. This is unfair and needs to be corrected.

The local retail industry provides 1 in 4 jobs, and is responsible for hundreds of millions in revenue for our great state. We need to be given every chance to succeed in a fair marketplace, one in which the government does not pick winners and losers.

Thank you, and please vote yes on SB-1338.
